About The Couple

Their Tale

The two met each other for the first time for a dinner at Shiv’s cousin’s place to celebrate his grand aunt’s 90th Birthday in Australia. They got to talking and at the end of the dinner his cousin asked Shiv to drop Gurpreet home. On their drive home, the two engaged in a light-hearted banter over the show ‘Suites’ and Shiv didn’t waste any time in getting her number.

The two however, got busy with their lives and it was after a couple of months when they finally caught up and met at a beach in Sydney for lunch when they ended up spending hours together. Connoting further the bride says, “Shiv and I love the small comforts of life. A good evening for us would be opening a nice bottle of wine and playing some board games with our friends or hosting a casual barbecue at home. We love our weekend getaways to the Hunter Valley for good wine and food.”

The Proposal

Shiv proposed to Gurpreet in New York over a holiday he had planned. On the D-day, he pretended not feeling well and asked her to head to Downtown with her friends while he’d join later. Her friends took the longest route possible to give Shiv enough time to reach the rooftop bar where he had planned on proposing her. Spilling the beans about her adorable surprise proposal Gurpreet reveals, “I saw Shiv standing at the end along with my sister (who flew in from canada), my best friend (who flew in from Australia) and his close friends (who flew in from New Zealand). As I started walking, live music started playing—shiv had arranged this beautiful couple to play—and the moment was just magical!”

The Details

The Engagement Ring

Made by Linda & Co. Jewellers, Sydney, Shiv designed the ring for which the inspiration was a flower. It’s a trilogy ring representing the past, the present, and the future with a round diamond in the center and pear diamonds on the sides. For the wedding band, they got three marquise diamonds to form three leaves that completed the full set.

Wedding Planning & Details

The duo’s wedding was hosted in Golden Tulip, Chandigarh, with Gurpreet and her dad planning the entire wedding themselves. They planned most of the things remotely as her father was the only one in India to bring the wedding vision to life because the couple themselves live in Australia and Shiv’s parents in New Zealand.

And boy, the wedding sure turned out to be one breathtaking affair that will undoubtedly inspire so many brides out there.

While the team of Colors Wedding Design Company ornamented and decked up the soiree in a whimsical fashion, Beginnings For You made sure to capture all the magic that this wedding was in an equally magical effervescence.

Red & Gold Sangeet

A red and gold themed sangeet officially kicked started the celebration on a super LIT and groovy note. While the decor boasted of hearty florals, light hued drapes, and chandeliers, the night was a fun gala with lots of performances, poems, games, and everybody partying like there’s no tomorrow.

Couple Looks

The couple for the evening chose to wear Manish Malhotra ensembles and pulled off a glamorously classic look. While Shiv wore a black and white bandhgala set with black shoes, Gurpreet slipped into a heavily embroidered nude pink and red lehenga.

She let her gorgeous diamond & ruby jewels from Jagdish Jewellers amp up her outfit while makeup artist Shradha Luthra and hairstylist Ruchi Arya gave her big soft curls & a subdued flushed look complemented with bold red lips.

Haldi Ceremony

The morning haldi ceremony was an intimate affair, the setup for which, was done in yellow marigolds, tuberoses, and vintage chairs. The ceremony was a riot of yellow, flowers, and hearty laughter.

Gurpreet's Haldi Look

While Shiv suited himself with a yellow kurta from Aza Fashions to complement Gurpreet’s outfit, she slipped in a breezy pastel yellow Sukriti & Aakriti cape set.

While the top and the skirt were marked with intricate colorful floral embroideries, her simplistic cape was lined with gold sequins. She teamed up her outfit with colorful Needledust mules and pretty pink floral jewellery from Prune India.

While Shradha chose to give her a naturally flushed look, Ruchi Arya left her hair open and half-tied in side twists.

The Punjabi Mehndi

This ceremony was a blast of happy and bright colors such as oranges, yellows, white, and pinks. Right from the multi-hued drapes & the cascading gota & fabric tassels to abundant use of yellow and orange marigolds, tuberoses, and greens, every single element of the decor added it’s magnificent touch to the entire theme.

While the cozy canopy corner & the decorated rickshaw made for a great photo op, the wreath style bridal seating festooned with kaleeras against a marigold jaal backdrop was the showstopper!

Gurpreet's Look

Gurpreet’s look for her mehndi ceremony is the prettiest mehndi look we’ve ever seen and it literally made us go all head over heels. She looked absolutely charming and radiant in a red gorgeously embellished Sabyasachi sharara which she accessorized with the most enchanting jewels.

An oversized choker set from Purab Paschim with a complemented maang-tikka from Curio Cottage made up for her baubles. Shradha Luthra chose to go minimal for her makeup to let her outfit and jewellery outshine and gave her soft brown smokey eyes coupled with nude brown lips and a red bindi.

Ruchi, whereas, gave her half-tied hair with side braids accentuated with Baby’s Breath flowers.

Shiv's Look

Shiv, for the day, chose to complement perfectly with his lady love and donned an Anita Dongre ensemble that comprised a white kurta and pants set teamed up with a bright red Nehru Jacket.

The bright and peppy mehndi was subsequently followed by the jaggo and chooda night for which Gurpreet simply amped up her day outfit with an orange phulkari dupatta.

Dhols and family members singing traditional songs next to a bonfire was all that was needed to make this upbeat night of celebration one jazzed up affair.

Wedding & Reception

The pink and beige themed wedding ceremony was absolutely magical and surreal in every way. While the Gurudwara for the duo’s Anand Karaj was minimally decorated with marigold garlands, it was their outdoor reception decor that took our breaths away. And will leave you going “oh my god” as well.

The paneled entrance was done in two distinctive ways with one segment laden with sorbet-hued drapes, mogra & rose garlands & shelves festooned with floral vases. Whereas, the following part boasted of structures ornamented with pink and white flowers, matching flower vases, crystal strings, and chandeliers.

The entire space was marked with pretty pastel-hued table settings amped up with unique umbrella style and structured centerpieces. The couple stage, on the other hand, was an all pink, white, and gold setup done in drapes, flowers, mirror panels, and a floral chandelier festooned with 3D doves cascading from crystal strings.

Gurpreet's Wedding Look

Gurpreet was a breathtaking vision in her pretty pink Rimple & Harpreet Narula lehenga that was replete with heavy sequin embroideries and embellishments with a slight touch of turquoise. Going rather subdued on her jewellery, she wore an exquisite pearl lined polki and emerald set from Jagdish Jewellers with a matching nath.

Red chooda and quirky shell kaleeras from Om Sons Bridal Store completed her looked flawlessly. Ruchi Arya tied up Gurpreet’s hair in a gorgeous Baby’s Breath accessorized hair bun while Shradha Luthra gave her soft smokey eyes, flushed cheeks, a mauve lip, and a tiny green bindi to stitch it all up!

Shiv's Wedding Look

Shiv went contrasting in pastels and donned a pastel green Sabyasachi sherwani with a beige stole and pink turban. A bejewelled Outhouse kalgi and pearl mala from Preeti Mohan added that bespoke royal touch to his entire look.
