A Uniquely Themed Traditional Wedding That’ll Enchant Your Hearts

Pragati & Rahul

For how Pragati and Rahul met in the most urban and modern way, their wedding celebrations were equally traditional and oozing with the old school charm that made this soiree stand out.

With distinctively themed ceremonies where everybody lived through instead of just marking their presence at, Pragati and Rahul’s wedding is a classic example of traditional meets unique.

We’ve been completely swooned over by their wedding and you’d be too!

About The Couple

Their Tale

Rahul and Pragati met through a dating app Dil Mil and connected while they were travelling through Atlanta. They talked for a couple of months before finally meeting in New York City and have been together ever since. Being in a long distance, they spent a lot of time on video calls when away and exploring places, restaurants or chilling at home whenever they met.

The Proposal

Rahul proposed to Pragati on a vacation to Savannah, GA which also was a surprise she got on Valentine’s Day through a puzzle. After a lunch at The Olde Pink House one noon, Rahul had planned to visit a cool art gallery at a hotel. While the host was taking them through a tour of the gallery, Rahul excused himself to the restroom but the host kept showing around the gallery to Pragati explaining each painting. “She led me upstairs and there I saw him—Rahul standing in the middle of a heart of roses. I can’t even remember what he said but, I’m pretty sure I said yes!”, tells the bride.

The Details

Engagement Ring

Giving us details about her ring the bride quotes, “When I was younger and first watched the movie Legally Blonde, I fell in love with Vivian Kensington’s 5 carat Harry Winston on her bony unpolished finger. She had a beautiful 3-stone setting consisting of a pear shaped diamond as the center stone and tapered baguettes on both sides. I love the classic look while still being a little unique, and I knew this was the ring for me. Rahul did deliver! He got me my perfect pear with tapered baguettes on a platinum band from Diamonds Direct.”

Wedding Planning & Details

Pragati always wanted a wedding that was not just a bunch of ceremonies but, a grand experience in itself. She wanted it to be a perfect blend of romantic vibes, fun & joyous moments, and themes that would be absolutely distinctive. Sonal J. Shah Events helped Pragati bring her vision to life and boy it was one masterpiece!
While Avsar lent their creativity for the fun and colorful mehndi and vidhi ceremonies, Design House Decor decked up the sangeet, wedding, and reception ceremonies. Topping it off with their art, AMI Photo & Video, Clane Gessel, and Pacific Pictures captured the entire soiree beautifully.

Highlighted with the hues of green and purple, the day mehndi was hosted at the home. Right from the drapes and the seating to the seating for the guests, all the decor was further marked with marigolds and white floral arrangements.
While Pragati’s parents and sister coordinated in green and she wore purple, the dress code for the guests was red so that the entire color scheme of the mehndi looked blended in.

Couple Mehndi Looks

Pragati designed her purple bandhani caped dress and got it stitched in India. She paired it up with just a pair of gold jhumkas to keep her look clean and simplistically beautiful. Style by Susmita who dolled her up for all the ceremonies left Pragati’s hair open in curls and accessorized with small purple flowers.

Rahul, on the other hand, wore a lavender kurta pyjama teamed up with a thread and sequin embroidered wine nehru jacket looking handsome as ever!

Vidhi Ceremony

The Vidhi ceremony too took place at the bride’s home itself and was an absolute traditional affair. The seating area for the bride was done in yellow and red drapes and the mattress seating for the guests from last night remained the same however, their covers were changed to match the decor’s theme.

Pragati's Vidhi Look

For the day, Pragati wore two unique looks and looked mesmerizing in both of them. Also, for her jewellery, she dug into the treasure troves of her family, combining different gold pieces for a traditional look. A traditional red bindi with bold lips and rose accentuated bow hair buns completed her look flawlessly.

For the vidhi, she donned a Bengali look and slipped into a red and white Kanjivaram saree, pairing it up with a long gold neck piece and earrings, and gorgeous haath phools.

Pithi Look

Later, she changed into a mustard lehenga with stunning golden embroideries but, what made this outfit special was how it was personalized. The skirt of the lehnega boasted of “Pragati & Rahul”, “June 7, 2019”, “New York City”, and “Always & Forever” embroidered with beads.

The Sangeet

The iridescent and holographic themed sangeet was hosted at Maritime Parc, Jersey City, and was one helluva joyous festivity. The holographic decor was further accentuated by incorporating a magazine cover photo booth, light-hued florals, cascading shimmery strings and mirrors. The colorful favor store added the perfect minimalist dash of hues to the entire setting.

Couple Looks

Rahul opted for a Nitesh Chauhan ensemble that consisted of salmon cowl kurta, maroon churidaar pants, and a peacock blue bandhgala.

Pragati, whereas, wore a multi-color foil lehenga by Falguni Shane Peacock that gorgeously complemented the decor theme. A pearl & uncut diamond necklace set from Bhuramal Rajmal Surana, pearl bangles and tied up hair elevated her look further.

Unique Sangeet Details

Being a Madhuri Dixit fan and for how Pragati had been in love with her since forever, she knew she had to dance to a Madhuri mashup on her wedding and that’s exactly what she did.

Amit Shah from AATMA Performing Arts choreographed her dance complete with background dancers and also designed a matching dress for Pragati in hues of green and blue. It absolutely made the Sangeet extra special.

The Wedding

The whimsical ceremony at The Plaza Hotel, New York, was setup exactly how Pragati desired—romantic, ethereal, and heavenly.

A 70 feet mirror aisle in gold, lined with white blooms mimicking clouds leading up to a gold and ivory all floral mandap made up for the decor. The foyer area outside the ballroom had a laser cut white piano with flowers pouring out of it.

Pragati's Look

For her wedding, Pragati chose a statement red Sabyasachi lehenga replete with light pink and green embroideries. Her jewellery was a blend of unique gold pieces from Satyanarayan Jadia & Sons and K B Zaveri. Complete with a traditional bridal makeup, a maroon lip, and a floral bun, she looked radiant as ever.

Rahul's Look

Rahul perfectly complemented his lady love in an Ivory Sabyasachi sherwani teamed up with a peach safa, multi-stringed pearl and emerald necklaces, and Nitesh Chauhan Ivory shoes. Suraj Patel was the perfect ally to Rahul in keeping him well groomed throughout the wedding week!

Bridal Party

Pragati designed her tribe’s look and even the groom squad’s look under her brand Pragati Jay. While her sister chose a Shyamal & Bhumika ensemble in jade green with a blush pink dupatta, Pragati chose an Ivory taffeta silk lehenga with colorful embroideries for her girlies.

A pearl and rhinestone belt, neat floral bun, and gold jewellery accessorized their looks further.

Groom Squad

For the groomsmen, she designed matching sherwanis teamed up with pleated Ivory kurta and pant sets and ready-made ivory safas.

The Reception

The mystical and enchanted forest themed reception was hosted at the Ziegfeld Ballroom, New York, and was truly a world in its own. With custom build 20 feet trees, heavy foliage and colorful flower arrangements, hints of moss, wood, and wildflower, candles and glassware, a gold dance floor, and performers dressed as fairies, the entire setup was a dream land that the guests were transported too.

The Reception Looks

While Rahul looked crisp and debonair in his black Hugo Boss tuxedo, Pragati went on and opted for two outfits.

To shine like a diva that she is and get drenched in a glamorous vibe, she opted for a glimmering Manish Malhotra drape gown which she wore with minimal and splendid diamond jewellery, open wavy locks, and glam makeup.

Later, for the cocktail hour, she changed into a cream and floral Arpita Mehta ruffled saree for the perfect balance between chic and comfort.

Tips From The Bride

  • One tip I can give which I have been saying to everyone is – get your man a groomer!
  • I would definitely recommend doing your research! Sometimes you see something you like, or have a thought that you
would want to incorporate but over time you forget about it. Putting it all together really helps because when you finally starting to plan, you can remember what you liked.
  • Lastly, trends change and styles come and go. At the end of the day, a wedding is pretty cookie cutter. It is how you decide to incorporate different touches to the wedding events that makes it a little different than the rest. It is okay to think outside the box and do something a little different! At the end of the day just remember, you chose an outfit, or a theme, or a song because you loved it, don’t worry about anyone else,
    it’s YOUR DAY!
