Intimate Soiree Amidst Covid-19 With Tasteful Wedding Inspiration

By Divya Arora .

Call it luck or call it fate but, sometimes the Universe works in magical ways, together with us, to give us what we dearly desire. But, of course, if we’re open to all the possibilities of ‘how and when’ and are just ready to roll with the flow. While so many of us are still hung up on “apparently, the world is not a wish granting factory”, this couple made sure their wish came true and well, their fate was on their side too.

For how it started with a bang and then fell into a slump, the 2020 wedding season has been one bumpy ride; at least up till now! While so many couples had to postpone or even cancel their wedding because of COVID, Shaili & Pranav, foreseeing how the conditions were only worsening, preponed their wedding in time. They re-planned their soiree and tied the knot within a week! And their intimate ceremony was one breathtaking affair that boasted of a gorgeous decor and unbound love & happiness all around.

Shaili and Pranav had been in a long distance since 2018 when he moved to Australia. That same year, he was supposed to fly down to Mumbai so that the duo could get each other’s parents introduced and get the ball rolling. But, before they knew it, their parents met each other even before Pranav’s arrival and when he did, the two got engaged the next day itself!

They decided on getting married in April 2020 but, for her to be able to fly back to Australia with Pranav after the wedding in April, they needed to apply for her visa. They needed a marriage certificate for the same and hence, they got married in a court ceremony on that same trip.

The couple initially planned a destination wedding at Alila Diwa in Goa with a guest list of 300 people. “After multiple visits and hours on the phone we had finalized all our vendors and entertainers and even paid deposits for most of them. We knew about covid-19 happening in the background and kept an eye but never expected to affect our wedding plans so drastically.
Pranav was supposed to fly in on April 3rd and we would leave for Goa on April 14th to ensure everything was in place for our ceremonies for April 15-16,” the bride connotes.

Wedding Planning & Details

The beginning of March had started getting the couple worried when they began thinking of alternatives whilst, still keeping up with their original plans. When on March 12th, the Indian government announced that no one apart from the citizens would be allowed to fly down to India, Pranav acted smart and hopped on a flight to Mumbai the same night.
Over the weekend they rescheduled their wedding to 19th March in Mumbai itself so that the duo can fly back to Australia on the 22nd. Planning everything again, like Shaili says, “was like shooting a moving target.” The couple along with their friends instantly started looking for venues, planners, and photographers and finalized everything within two days.

However, because of further restrictions imposed, their wedding venue ended up unable to host their gathering of 200 people and their families started looking for a new one while the couple went shopping for Pranav’s outfits.

While their mehndi ceremony and a private party was hosted across different spaces at the Taj Lands End, they took their pheras at Palm Gardens with just 50 people for each event. The rest were sent the live links to attend their wedding virtually.

The entire soiree was gorgeously framed by the team of Love Shoot Repeat absolutely quintessentially. “From the first time we opened their Instagram profile, we knew Love Shoot Repeat had to be the ones,” Shaili says.

The Mehndi Ceremony

A white and yellow floral saga with abundant use of marigolds, Three Entertainment Weddings bedecked the Taj Lands End’s Alfresco beautifully. For the cheerful ceremony, while Pranav looked handsome in a dusty blue, Ivory, and powder pink kurta-churidaar & Nehru jacket set, Shaili looked radiant in a chrome yellow and baby pink mirror-work lehenga.

She teamed it up with dainty jewels while Nilofer gave her subdued makeup with glistening eyelids and hairstylist Chandni gave her a tousled half-tied hairdo ornamented with Baby’s Breath flowers.

The Wedding Ceremony

After dancing the night away in a private party at the House of Nomad, the next day began with a haldi ceremony and puja at the Malabar Banquets. The wedding later in the evening at the Palm Gardens was a bewitching floral and traditional affair with tuberoses, lotuses, antique vessels, and bells festooning the pastel mandap!

Pranav looked dapper and crisp in a beige Sunita Bhandari sherwani which he accessorized with a three-stringed ruby mala.

Shaili, on the other hand, went all royal in a rani pink heavily embroidered lehenga pairing it up with stunning pearl and uncut diamond jewels from Ghanasingh Fine Jewels.

With her hair tied up in a twists bun, Fatima Soomar gave her a flushed look with a pale lip and soft shimmery eyes.

The bride further connotes, “At the time we were heartbroken to cancel our dream wedding and not being able to celebrate with our close family and friends but, in hindsight, we feel fortunate that we were able to have a small wedding just in time before the lockdown.”

Tips From The Bride For Couples Planning Their Wedding Amidst Covid-19

  • After an initial meltdown for not getting the wedding we wanted, it was important to see the broader picture. All that mattered was that Pranav flew back to India in no time and we decided to get married right then. I can’t imagine what it would be like if we’d have postponed the wedding and I’d have to spend the lockdown without him.
  • I think all brides should see the bigger picture. A mehndi or wedding function will still feel like one, as long as your nearest and dearest are around (physically or virtually). You can always celebrate when things go back to normal but you’d rather not miss out on the time you could have with your partner.
