Best Indian Wedding Fashion from 2015

By Puneet Saggar .

2015 was a year of revival for Indian fashion, with the return of Banarasi silk, delicate textures and weaves and bright royal colours and cuts. We also saw some trends emerge such as the full sleeved blouse, sheer capes, fusion outfits and new ways of draping.

Some of our favourite moments of 2015 include…

1. The Debut of Athiya Shetty

The daughter of 90’s Bollywood actor Sunil Shetty is the new kid on the block and giving Sonam Kapoor some serious competition on the fashion front. We love each and every look pulled off by this beauty, whether it be western or traditional. These gorgeous fusion pieces however are understated yet unique and would be perfect for guests at a wedding event.

2. Manish Malhotra's 25th Anniversary Campaign for Vogue India

It has been 25 years since Manish Malhotra started dressing our favourite actresses on screen. To celebrate this milestone, he dressed 5 leading ladies for a cover shoot for Vogue India. Needless to say the results were stunning and provided plenty of inspiration for a multitude of wedding events. The outfits were all in various forms of pastel pink & gold and included everything from gowns to lehengas and sarees, all designed by the man himself.

3. Sabyasachi & Christian Louboutin Collaboration

One of the most anticipated collaborations of the year was between Sabyasachi and renowned, Parisian shoe designer Christian Louboutin. The results were showcased at India Couture Week and were nothing short of breathtaking. The shoes, designed for both men and women perfectly complement Indian wedding attire and simply look exquisite. They are also a great keepsake that can be passed down to loved ones.

4. Sonam Kapoor during promotions for Prem Ratan Dhan Payo

While Sonam’s outfits in the film were impeccable, her promotional looks were also exactly on point each and every single time. Of course, we didn’t expect anything less – Sonam’s looks are always great inspiration for your bridal trousseau!

5. Celebrity Showstoppers during India Couture Week & Lakme Fashion Week

India Couture Week and Lakme Fashion Week 2015 showcased some amazing looks for the modern Indian bride. We especially loved the unique take on draping by Anamika Khanna (as seen on Kareena Kapoor) and the off the shoulder blouse with a side slit skirt and mirror work by Arpita Mehta (as seen on Malaika Arora Khan).

6. Nishka Lulla's wedding outfits

Designer, Nishka Lulla got married this year and we are love with all the outfits and looks from her wedding events. All of Nishka’s outfits were unique and provided a completely different look for each of her wedding functions. We especially loved the bright pink and blue traditional lehenga she wore for the the wedding which had a gorgeous long pink veil. The bright yellow, modern Mehendi outfit was another one of our favourites with the flower crown and permed hair completing the look beautifully. All of Nishka’s outfits were made by her mother and renowned Indian fashion designer Neeta Lulla.

7. The Kapoor Sisters

The Kapoor sisters always look classy and this year was no exception! Kareena & Karisma provided some great looks that we will definitely will be trying to emulate this wedding season. We love the full sleeved blouse worn by Karisma which seems to be back in fashion and the green brocade kurta matched with a purple skirt worn by Kareena – a different look which could be great for a mehendi or sangeet event.

8. Pernia Qureshi

Pernia launched her first movie this year and blessed us all with beautiful outfits from the House of Kotwara. These traditional styles would make the perfect outfits for your bridesmaids or your smaller wedding functions such as your mehendi or sangeet.

9. Deepika Padukone during promotions for Bajirao Mastani & Tamasha

Deepika Padukone usually looks amazing in any outfit, however we are partial to all her looks in a saree. She didn’t disappoint during promotions for her recent films Bajirao Mastani & Tamasha where we saw her in a range of beautiful sarees from formal Anju modi creations with full sleeved blouses to modern and a little more casual sarees which would look amazing for any pre-wedding functions.

10. Bollywood Red Carpets & Events

It is no secret that Bollywood red carpets and events such as weddings and launch parties provide us with some of the best fashion inspiration. Here are some of our favourite looks from various Bollywood events of 2015. We are in love with the vintage looks worn by Kangana Ranaut and Sonam Kapoor as well as the capes worn by Jacqueline Fernandez, Sridevi and Katrina Kaif. Needless to say, 2015 was a great year for Indian fashion and we look forward to seeing brides incorporate some of these looks as part of their wedding events!
