Well no matter how much we love shopping at our favourite brands in swanky malls or splurging like there is no tomorrow while experiencing the Dubai Shopping Festival in Dubai or shopping like a complete fashion diva in London – there is always a great thrill in shopping on a budget in our own city!
There are also innumerable occasions/reasons and hence, our clothing needs are never really fulfilled. Well, after all, no girl has ever really said that I have too many clothes!
Also, there is this amazing joy in buying good fashion at a good price! Don’t we all feel a great sense of happiness in getting bargain buys or picking up fun stuff from modest markets?
Here is a list of some of my favourite markets where you get good value for money and if not, they always offer an experience quite simple and sweet…
1. Lajpat Nagar
I make no bones in accepting that this is one of my favourite markets as there is seldom anything that you wouldn’t find here! As summers are approaching, why not stock up on some comfortable cotton kurtas or suits? I pretty much have been enticed each time around to pick up a fun gota-patti sharara swaying away outside these small shops. Also, for those who love colourful dupattas- there is just no end to the variety that you’ll get here. And the list doesn’t end with just Indian clothing, there are juttis, jewellery, bags, hair accessories- pretty much everything your closet wants (or not)!!!
2. Sarojini Nagar
In Delhi – college life pretty much runs synonymous with Sarojini Nagar shopping! What fun it was to return home with hands full of shopping bags, don’t you agree? All the fashion divas out there would accept that Sarojini houses some high on fashion pieces which also may just be one of its kind! What you may not like would be to buy a top and then later spot it at every second shop out there! Pro tip would be not to switch to shopping gear as soon as you enter!
3. Chandani Chowk
I absolutely loved making memories here with my mom while shopping for my wedding! For brides to be, you do know that no matter where you finally land up buying your wedding lehenga from- checking out Chandani Chowk shops is a must! But I have to say that some of their stores are actually quite amazing! I quite enjoyed my experience at Asiana Couture though I didn’t finally land up buying from here, but you’ll be surprised that they’ll dress you up like a diva in your short-listed outfit and have you walk the ramp at the center of their store and in the case that you land up finalizing the outfit, the audience (other customers and their staff) would be applauding for you. Sounds fun, doesn’t it? Also, Chandani Chowk is an amazing place to buy your mehendi favours and artificial jewellery!
4. M Block G.K. Market
In times of dire need of clothes, this is one market that has never disappointed me for there are just so many options. If looking for trendy clothes, shoes or accessories, then this market is quite well stocked! Also, a reason for always returning to M block market besides Prince Paan Wala and Momos are the myriad options of quality tailors for saree/lehenga blouses! And for all those wanting to get a piercing done or are looking at buying nose studs – Siloffer is the store to head to!
While you always spot lots of tourists at this market, it is as exciting for the locals as well! But be certain to step up your bargaining game here. I love buying trendy jewellery from here and not to miss gorgeous and rich ethnic pieces that can be turned around into spectacular outfits.
6. Karol Bagh
Well, like Chandani Chowk, this market too has some really famous places to eat at such as the iconic ‘Roshan di Kulfi’ but more importantly, there is much you can get done here in case you’re shopping for your wedding!
7. Kamla Nagar Market
All Delhi University North Campus students are definitely well versed with this market for there are many shops selling all things trendy! Well, we all are familiar with college life woes of- “new day, new look” so in that case, hop here for shopping Kurtas, tops, earrings, necklaces, bracelets, rings, footwear and so much more!
This colourful market is a favourite with bag-packers as it truly is an amazing place for budget shopping! Want to stock up on junk jewellery or buy some vibrant bags? Well, then just head here…
9. Banjara Market, Gurgaon
Shopping for your home in high-end stores is routine, this street market shall truly let you give a fun twist to your interiors without pinching your pockets all that much. That’s not it, you would be surprised and overwhelmed with their unique collection of pots, frames, hangings and the like. For those who constantly like to quirk up their homes, this market is a haven of all things nice!!!
10. Dilli Haat
Believe it or not, Dilli Haat pretty much features on every foreigner’s itinerary. What’s more, is that there is just so much on offer that even locals don’t shy away from making a trip here every now and then! The market essentially promotes local artisans, handicrafts and locally hand – made items. So if you want to flaunt some Indian flavour with a Kashmiri Shawl or Phulkari Dupatta- then this is the ideal place to shop!
11. Rajouri Garden
Well, in recent times everyone around Delhi has pretty much been talking about checking out Rajouri Garden for some of the other reasons. Rajouri Garden houses plenty of malls which are located in close proximity to each other but there are also enough options for budget shopping and we reckon you must do some homework and head to some of the popular boutiques for your trousseau shopping!
12. Tilak Nagar
West Delhi also has its share of shopping hubs and this one wouldn’t disappoint you. For brides to be – you can shop for any artificial jewellery you are looking for or there are ample stores for suit and sari shopping. Also, if looking for casual tops – you shall have enough to explore!
13. Chawri Bazaar
There is a wedding in the house? There is no way you wouldn’t check this bazaar out for your wedding invitations. Wells, designer invites now are a thing but you may just surprise yourself here with endless options at unbeatable pricing. And when you have made the effort of going all the way- you can even looking at binging at places such as Shyam Sweets, Hira Lal Chaat Corner , Kuremal Kulfi Wale or even Ashok Chaat Corner.
14. Sadar Bazaar
Truly a phenomenal wholesale market but you must step out here in comfortable shoes and carry your water bottle to keep yourself hydrated. There are earrings, bangles and neck-pieces galore in here. Also, you may want to pick up stuff for home whether crockery, decor items or in case you want to stock up some gift items.
