Colourful Traditional Palace Wedding

Tarisha & Dev

Snapshot

How did we meet?

Dev and I were introduced by his uncle who happened to be my father’s childhood friend and set up on a blind date. We didn’t know anything about each other at first. Dev is the CEO of a hotel company he founded with his brother. I also work in the industry under my father’s company. Having this in common, we hit it off and the rest is history!

How we are as a couple?

Dev and I are both fun-loving and extremely caring. We love being around family and friends and entertaining at our home. Both of us enjoy going out just as much as we love sitting at home and watching Netflix.

About The Couple

How he proposed?

Dev did a surprise proposal at one of my favorite spots in Los Angeles. Our siblings and cousins were involved in the planning. Following the proposal, Dev hired and a restaurant nearby where our parents, family, and friends were waiting for us. I had two amazing surprises in one day!

The engagement ring?

Dev chose a gorgeous 5 carat round brilliant engagement ring. He had the help of my sister and some contacts in Mumbai.

The Details

Wedding Planning

LOCATION: Once our families decided to do have the wedding in India, I had my heart set on Udaipur. My mother and I envisioned a royal, palace setting. Our venues were spread out across various venues Udaipur, Rajasthan with a few events in Vadodara, Gujarat. The festivities commenced and ended in Vadodara, with a Welcome Party and the Wedding Reception respectively, while all other pre-wedding events and the Wedding Ceremony were spread across three days in Udaipur.

WEDDING PLANNER: The biggest pillar of support throughout the entire wedding planning process was our families in India. Dev and I both live in the U.S. so we worked very closely with our cousins, Shivani and Arpit, for every detail of our wedding. Our uncles, Sanjay and Subhash were also extremely instrumental in executing the planning, seeing as though it was turning out to be such an elaborate affair. With all their hard work at play, we knew that we needed to hire a wedding planner to assist coordinate everything in the days leading up to the wedding, including communication with the other associated wedding professionals, and on the day itself. Ankita Chugh Weddings did an absolutely amazing job all around. Everything was timed and executed so perfectly throughout the three days we were in Udaipur.

WEDDING SHOPPING: All of our wedding shopping was done in Mumbai. My mother’s family is from there, so I was already very familiar with the whereabouts of my favorite designers and jewelry stores in the city.

Key Professionals

PHOTOGRAPHY & CINEMATOGRAPHY: We chose PhotoTantra for both our photography and cinematography and they were an absolute blast to work with. They made Dev and I feel so comfortable during the video and photo shoots. I think photos and videos speak for themselves.

HAIR & MAKEUP ARTIST: My makeup artist, Elton J Fernandez was by far the most fierce, fun, and talented! He created a different look for each event. I never questioned his ideas, but rather sat in my chair and watch him create his magic.

DECOR: The designer of the decor was Heena Patel from Amaahyaaj. She was the young, trendy-chic designer I was always hoping to find. She designed every single event with such passion and pulled it off excellently. She really is a creative genius.

Welcome Party

OVERVIEW: This event, a warm-up for the next eight days of celebrations ahead, was held at Sandasera Farm in VadodaraIt was a great opportunity for our families to introduce Dev and me to everyone as we had lots of family and friends who had flown in from all over the world. We had canapes provided by Kabir Farm and drinks flowing throughout the evening and Sanam Band performed live. We all danced until three in the morning!

DECOR & THEME: The Welcome Party had a ‘Moroccan Nights’ theme, where we used deep blue, gold and amazing lanterns to adorn the place.

TARISHA’S OUTFIT: I went with a Sabyasachi ombre Anarkali with floral details. It was a bold and beautiful look that accented the ‘Moroccan Nights’ theme. A deep berry lip for a pop of color and sleek, low bun completed the look.

DEV’S OUTFIT: Dev wore a cool chic blue suit with a black lapel. It was very young, hip and trendy.

Mehendi Overview & Decor

OVERVIEW: Our Mehendi was held on the lakeside lawns at Leela Palace, Udaipur. Dev and I made a grand entrance on a bicycle cart that was driven by Dev! Our family and friends cheered us on as we entered.

The afternoon filled with activities with stations for henna artists, fortune tellers, and a bangle bazaar. I already had had my bridal mehendi applied on my hands beforehand and only had my feet designed during the function. That way, it was easier for me to enjoy the afternoon and not have to worry about any mehendi getting smudged or staining my outfit.

DECOR & THEME: We had a quirky theme for our Mehendi. We had colorful tassles, Rajasthani dolls, tree trunks covered in marigolds and a photo feature prop in the form of a bicycle with fun, humourous signage for our guests to pose with. The mood was extremely light and joyful.

Mehendi Looks

TARISHA’S OUTFIT: I wore a fun pink, yellow and white Anita Dongre midi lehenga, which fits perfectly with our theme. The length of the ghagra created a fun, playful look and was very practical when it came to applying mehendi on my feet. That way, I was sure not to damage the lehenga with any henna stains.

HAIR & MAKEUP: To keep the look playful Elton J Fernandez styled my hair in a soft, twisted ponytail. My makeup was kept light and minimal for a day look, with top liner and a bright pink lip to match my lehenga.

DEV’S OUTFIT:  Dev’s outfit coordinated with my lehenga. He had a customized white and gold kurta pajama with a bright yellow vest and green pocket square to add contrast. His look was designed by Raghavendra Rathore.

Sangeet Overview & Decor

OVERVIEW: The evening was a ‘Sangeet meets Gujrati Garba Night’ at Zanana Mahal in City Palace. All our family and friends came together to perform to a mix of their favorite Bollywood songs, but the highlight was when we kicked off the evening with a few rounds of Garba!

THEME & DECOR: For this event, we had a deep-sea blue, green and purple theme. We had hundreds of candles lit to outlay the already gorgeous backdrop of Zanana Mahal. The outdoor setting was loved by our guests; the ambiance created by the lighting, open-air dance floor and private cabana’s set up around the courtyard created a great cocktail party feel. A feature wall made of tea light candles and marigold flowers was kept at the entrance and came in handy as a great backdrop for photos.

Sangeet Looks

TARISHA’S OUTFIT: For my Sangeet look, I wanted a glamorous, modern lehenga that still had traditional elements. I wore a custom made full mirrored deep blue and turquoise lehenga by Arpita Mehta. The mirror work blouse was an homage to my Gujrati background and matched perfectly with the theme of the evening, which is why Arpita Mehta was the perfect choice for this event. Her brand is synonymous with mirror work with a modern touch.

TARISHA’S HAIR & MAKEUP: To achieve that elegant glamorous look, Elton J Fernandez gave me side-swept hair, dark eyes, and a nude lip.

DEV’S OUTFIT: Dev wore a black kurta pajama by Raghavendra Rathore. To dress it up, we added a Raghavendra Rathore vest with crystal embellishments and a red pocket square.

Wedding Ceremony Overview & Decor

OVERVIEW: The royal Wedding Ceremony was held at Jagmandir Palace. The floating palace, situated right in the middle of Udaipur’s infamous Lake Pichola, was the perfect setting for our outdoor sunset wedding. The courtyard was lit up with bright lights and adorned in florals. The baraat danced from the hotel to the jetty, after which they all caught a boat to the venue. I made my bridal entrance with a floral chunni over my head. The ceremony was followed by a buffet dinner, speeches by our close family and friends and our cake cutting ceremony.

DECOR & THEME: Jagmandir Palace is such a gorgeous venue in itself, so we wanted to maintain the royal traditional look with minimalistic decor. We went with a very traditional theme using red, gold and white colors, along with the traditional Indian gota flowers around the courtyard.

Wedding Ceremony Looks

TARISHA’S OUTFIT: Although we had a traditional Gujrati wedding, my bridal lehenga was a little more unconventional. While Gujrati brides usually wear a white and red panetar, I opted for a fuschia pink and muted green Tarun Tahiliani lehenga. With all its embroidery and deep color, it radiated a very royal look.

HAIR & MAKEUP: As my lehenga was quite royal and extravagant, it was important to ensure that my makeup was balanced the look. The very creative Elton J Fernandez gave me a minimalist look that was still striking and bold. Elton did soft eyes with long lashes and a berry lip to add a pop of color. My hair was kept in a slicked-back low bun.

DEV’S OUTFIT: Dev wore a crisp white Raghavendra Rathore sherwani with a deep red safa. The safa was complimented with a diamond headpiece given to Dev by his mother on the wedding day.

Wedding Reception Overview & Decor

OVERVIEW: The Reception was a grand affair at Kabir Farms. It was an evening for the family to formally introduce us as husband and wife to our extended family and friends so we could receive their blessings. We had an amazing violinist from Russia and her band play live for our guests as they treated themselves to a lovely buffet dinner.

DECOR &THEME: The evening was a grand event, where we used a combination of pastels and floral fabrics for our ‘Pastels and Petals’ theme. Heena from Amaahyaaj draped the entire venue is pastel pink, green, orange and white georgette fabric. Crystal chandeliers added a romantic, whimsical feel and complimented the floral chandelier centerpiece, made completely of hanging mogra’s – it was a lovely sight!

Wedding Reception Looks

TARISHA’S OUTFIT: For the Reception, I wore the show stopper piece from the Sabyasachi 2014 Ferozabad collection runway show.

HAIR & MAKEUP: To keep the look minimal and elegant, I went with a low, twisted bun. Winged liner and a bright pink lip completed the feminine, royal look.

DEV’S OUTFIT: My husband wore a black suit by Raghavendra Rathore.
