The Big Fat Fairy Tale Wedding of #SimAndKevINLove
Simrun & Kevin
Simrun and Kevin’s wedding was nothing less than a fairy tale. A wedding filled with awe, laughter and lots of memories to cherish. Right from the romantic proposal in a hot air balloon to the planning of this wedding, this couple is the perfect example that love, at first sight, does exist!
About The Couple
How did they meet?
Staying 10 miles apart with so many mutual friends, little did they know that Cupid would strike at a friend’s party. Kevin describes the meeting in the best way possible. “I was swept off my feet seeing her dressed in a pink sari with silver accents at a friend's party. It was surely 'love at first sight' and I knew right then that she was the one I want to grow old with!”
The Proposal Story
Kevin always wanted to plan the most romantic proposal ever. The morning of the proposal their driver picked them up and took them to an open place that was surrounded with colorful hot air balloons. They were a thousand feet above when Kevin dropped to his knees and popped the question. With teary eyes, she said yes!
If elegance had a face, it would be this! Simrun’s ring was a flawless brilliant cut diamond in a 4 prong setting, and a dainty band with diamonds all around. While Kevin’s ring was bought from Cartier, a simple gold band. To make it extraordinary, Kevin surprised his lady love by having ‘Simrun’ engraved on it.
Simrun and Kevin wanted their wedding to be the best reflection of themselves and their love. Their team of photographers - Lin & Jirsa and Vinuthna Garidipuri did a fantabulous job in turning the dreams of #SimAndKevINLove into reality.
When it came to planning their wedding, they wanted no one but the best - Nikki Khan of Exquisite Events, who left no page unturned when it came to planning the Big Day. Every event had displayed Simrun and Kevin’s love story in the best way possible.
The vision was to have a mix of an intimate wedding and a big fat Indian wedding. Loved ones from all over the world flew in to celebrate their big day with them.
They had decided to get married at the Fairmont Grand Del Mar in San Diego, California, a hotel that had a lot of memories attached to it.
Simrun and Kevin's Mehendi was a formal day time event with close friends and family. Her mehendi design made by Neeta Desai Sharma had very interesting elements close to their love story. There was a Major League Baseball's San Diego Padres Logo, a stethoscope as a dedication to Kevin's profession, a sunset, and palm trees as a symbol of their honeymoon destination Turks and Caicos and detailed peacocks to showcase Kevin's love for peacocks.
Sangeet + Baraat Entrance
Simrun and Kevin’s Sangeet was an evening filled with dance, music and a lot of fun. It began with Kevin making a grand entry with two Rolls Royce and live music.
Simrun looked no less than a dream for all her wedding occasions. For the Sangeet, she wore an Ivory lehenga embellished with gold and colored sequins beautifully designed by Rohit Bal. This, she paired with a chic sleeveless, V-neck blouse by Mayyur Girotra. As for the jewelry, she flaunted an elegant Navratan Kundan diamond set and her all-time favorite nude heels by Saint Laurent YSL.
Kevin dressed to kill for all the occasions while his aim was to look ritzy and classic. He kept it simple with a black sherwani and off-white pajama pants with Christian Louboutin shoes for the Baraat and Sangeet. His large pink turban with a pink shawl and a Kalgi made of sapphire and diamonds brought out the best in his look.
Hot Air Balloons
As a symbol of their romantic proposal, they had four large hot air balloons decorated with flowers placed in the hall.
The room was adorned with colorful tents from Raj Tents, a custom Persian rug designed by Hire Elegance and lounge furniture embellished with gold accents. To make sure the crowd was entertained at all times they had two dhol players, dancers from Karmagraphy, a selfie booth and a hookah lounge too.
Their Sikh ceremony was a complete package of traditions, with a modern touch to it. Square Roots Designs did an outstanding job as they carpeted the entire Capella Room, decorated the aisle with flower petals and candles that created a splendid backdrop.
For the big day, Simrun went with a perfect red Sabyasachi lehenga along with a delicate polki gold and emerald wedding set from Kashi Jewellers that complimented her low-cut blouse. To make her look like a complete combination of an Indian-American bride, Salt Spell Beauty added some drama to her makeup and used some smoky tones, big lashes, and red lips. She finished her look with a little bling as she wore her glittery Jimmy Choo heels.
For the wedding, he went with Sabyasachi and wore an ivory sherwani with a matching shawl that had gold details all over. His dark turban with a diamond and sapphire Kalgi was again the best part of his look. Simrun’s parents had gifted him a gold necklace so he paired it with his sherwani. Apart from this, he wore a pearl necklace and dark brown shoes. And to complete the look, he carried a sword.
To make sure all were color and theme coordinated, the bridesmaids were dressed in outfits created by The Studio Fashion Boutique in Sacramento. They looked like complete divas in light pink outfits with gold and pearl accents and heavy net dupattas.
Most Unique Moment From The Wedding
Simrun shares, "the vidaai was one of the most special moments of my wedding. My family, bridesmaids and I were on one side of the ribbon and Kevin and his family were on the other. My bridesmaids had given Kevin a list of tasks to complete if he wanted to cross the ribbon to come to his bride. One task was to sing a song in Hindi describing his love to me. At this moment, I froze since Kevin cannot speak Hindi nor does he listen to Bollywood songs. But he surprised all of us. Instantly, he got down on one knee and began singing Kabhi Kabhi Mere Dil Mein. We were all shocked. This was when I started to cry, a reminder of somehow, someway in any language, Kevin will always be able to express his love for me."
The Grand Reception
The grand reception was spectacular in every way. We started our reception with a romantic first dance to Bob Marley’s “Is This Love” performed by the live band, The Shrines.
Large mirrors, Ivory carpets, gigantic chandeliers – it was a night that Simrun and Kevin had always dreamt about. A neat sit down dinner with round tables, some soothing music, and graceful ballroom dancers, it was definitely an event to remember for life!
Bride & Groom Outfit
For the reception, she knew she wanted to be a perfect balance of glamorous and classic. She looked like a perfect beauty in her dark blue Manish Malhotra gown with intricate details. This she teamed with her alluring diamond and sapphire set that was gifted to her by Kevin and his family. To complete her look she wore the Christian Louboutin Lady Peep Slingback in a velvet black. While Kevin looked absolutely dapper for the reception in a medium lapel Tom Ford tuxedo with black Tom Ford shoes and a bow tie with gold cufflinks over a classic tuxedo shirt and a maroon boutonniere.
Tips for the Brides-To-Be
Here are certain tips from Simrun, the bride herself:
1. Planning the wedding can definitely be overwhelming, so ensure you do not miss out on what’s important. You and your future husband come first, so make it an enjoyable and memorable process.
2. Listen to your groom and include him in the planning process. Nothing is more fun than doing things together!
3. It is YOUR day, do whatever makes you happy.
4. Expect that things won’t be ‘perfect’, and that is absolutely okay.
5. It’s not the wedding that matters, but the union of you, and your partner!
