Under the clear skies and against the natural backdrop in an exquisite urban-boho setting, Mani Jassal, founder of the designer label by the same name recently got hitched to her long time beau Hark amidst their loved ones, and their engagement party has been trending all over the Internet ever since.

An all white party with fancy yet elegant decor, whimsical elements and the couple’s sartorial looks, this affair is exactly what dreams are made of. While we couldn’t stop ourselves from going gaga over the tiniest of details, we’re sure you won’t be able to stop ogling at the sheer beauty that this breathtaking ceremony was!

About The Couple

Their Tale of Love

Mani and Hark have been friends since high school and dated for almost four years before he proposed to her. She being the outgoing one and he being the reserved one, they both are complete opposites and that is what brought them closer to each other. “I am also a city girl and he’s more of a farm boy. I find that he keeps me grounded, and I bring out his fun side. Hark has been one of my pillars when I started my business, always super supportive of everything from helping out at my shows to building things in my stores, he’s always there. We both run our own companies and are always on the go. So,we love our time off from work together, just relaxing, Netflix and chill, going to the movies and the odd outdoor adventures”, says Mani.

The Proposal Story

For as adorable it is, it is equally funny as she was proposed twice. They both went on a vacation to Tulum, Mexico which mani thought was the perfect time for Hark to propose to her. But, to keep her from guessing, Hark had completely convinced Mani that there isn’t going to be any proposal because the rings take too long to be made. On the last day of the trip though, during their private dinner on the hotel’s private rooftop, while dancing to ‘so into you’ by Tamia, under the stars, Hark went down on his knee and proposed to Mani. But, here’s the funny catch— there was no ring. The ring that was supposed to arrive from Washington in Mexico during their trip didn’t because of the customs and hence, when it finally did, back at their place in Toronto, Hark proposed to her again. At her place, he read her a love letter he wrote, went down on his knees and slid the ring onto her finger.

The Details

The Details

Working with Sonia from Chic Events by Sonia on all of her solo shows, Mani knew that she wanted her for her big day too. After getting back from Tulum, Mani started out on her engagement party’s planning with Sonia who helped in bringing Mani’s vision of a Tulum themed bash to life. Since they wanted it to be an outdoor affair, Hark’s family house which even had a barn played out to be the perfect place for the event.
Boho and eclectic in nature, it was an all white party where even the guests were asked to wear whites, florals, and linens. Paras Events decked up the entire place and made sure that every single element was weaved remarkably to bring up a ‘roadside restaurant in Tulum’ vibe. Renata Kaveh and Cineverse Films being their best, framing the entire party quintessentially, were the unmissable and perfect icing on top.

The Engagement Party

Along with the barn, a beautiful airy tent area made up for additional space alongside. The area for the ‘Koormai’, ‘Chunni’ and ‘Shagan’ consisted of a loveseat from Bois et Cuir, a trunk, a bohemian umbrella from The Eastern Bazaar, and several cozy cushions. Pretty swings, hammock, cascading organza tassles, surreal lamps and string lights adorned the place gorgeously making the entire venue look super dreamy. A retro minimally decorated Volkswagen van made up for an uber quirky photo booth blending well with the theme.

Mani's Look

Mani designed her own engagement piece which will be a part of her brand Mani Jassal’s new Tulum Collection launching by the end of August. First and foremost though, she picked up her jewellery from Minerali in Mumbai and then designed her outfit around it. Done in intricate pearl detailing and turquoise stones, her enameled choker set was stunningly unique and elevated her look like no other piece would have. Her blush rose ensemble was a perfect blend of boho and chic. Her tiered skirt was a charming combination of tulle with mirror work and silk with badla work. Her bustier top had detached puff sleeves added to it and her outfit was strikingly amped up with a tulle cape that was hidden underneath her choker.

Aniya Mandy glammed up Mani and gave her an effortlessly stylish look with a textured low bun and subtle makeup.

The Dupatta

Not just that but, she also designed the dupatta that Hark’s parents gifted her. It had the lyrics of ‘So into you’ by Tamia embroidered on the border along with their names and the proposal date. A classic gota border outlined the dupatta as an ode to both their moms’ wedding dupattas lending it a sweet touch of tradition.

Hark's Look

Hark also wore a Mani Jassal menswear piece that is one of the first occasion menswear that Mani designed. He wore an ivory kurta set in Lucknowi work and paired it up with a shawl draped like a traditional Punjabi ‘Khasi’. Brown Ferragamo shoes completed his look perfectly.

Bridal Party Look

Mani decided to have all her girls wear the new Tulum Collection as that would have made for a nice way to preview the collection on real women in a real setting. While her sister wore pink, the rest of the bridesmaids donned all white.

The Bridal Entry

Mani walked down the aisle with her sister and her closest girls to the song 'Kanda Kacheya Ne' from Daana Pani under a serene white dupatta with fringes and tassels.

Unique Party Details

The offbeat and unique food and drinks spread was no less than a highlight that gave a defining edge to the entire event. Right from tacos, gol gappa shots, nachos and guac in martini glasses, chicken skewers in mini bucket pails and chilli paneer sticks in mini chineses take away containers to different ‘his’ and ‘her’ drinks, everything was presented and served uniquely keeping the theme in mind. They also had a Wake & Bake pop up shop for guests to enjoy desserts which wasn’t your ordinary dessert table.

Tips from Mani

Here are some of the tips that Mani shared:

  • You can spend months planning the event but on the big day, let it all go and have fun.
  • Comfort is the key! Make sure you are comfortable and do a look change for the dancing part. It’s your big day so why not show off all your looks
  • Get a planner or a coordinator! It takes a huge weight off your family members. They can actually enjoy the night instead of stressing the day.
